MAHJ SCHOOL: THE BASICS
Sunday, September 20 · 2–5 PM Learn the game from the ground up. No experience necessary.
The Basics takes you from What am I looking at? to sitting down and playing your first hand.
You'll learn:
An overview of American Mahjong and how the game works
Getting to know the tiles
How to read and decode the NMJL card
The basics of building a hand
Guided practice putting it all together
Come knowing nothing. Leave ready for Study Hall.
MAHJ SCHOOL: STUDY HALL
Sunday, October 11 · 2–5 PM You know the basics. Now it's time to put them into play.
Study Hall is for newer players who already have the fundamentals and aren't quite ready to sit down at a table on their own. Some prior knowledge is required — the fundamentals covered in The Basics won't be retaught here.
Think less lesson, more learning by playing, with close guidance as you:
Build and break the wall
Learn the Charleston
Set up and start a game
Play full games from start to finish
Read the NMJL card and choose hands in real time
Build confidence through closely supervised game play
Bring what you've learned. We'll help you turn it into a game.
