A restorative, evidence-guided approach to women’s hormonal wellness

Hormonal shifts can quietly erode energy, mood, libido, and overall vitality. Testosterone pellet therapy at PRFCT is designed to restore physiological balance with precision, stability, and a deeply personalized approach. Under the guidance of board-certified OB-GYN Dr. Valerie Gafori, this treatment offers women a safe and consistent way to reclaim clarity, stamina, and emotional steadiness throughout every phase of hormonal change.

What Is Testosterone Pellet Therapy?

Testosterone pellets are small, bio-identical hormone implants placed beneath the skin (typically in the upper buttock). They slowly dissolve and deliver a steady, physiologic dose of testosterone over months, avoiding daily gels or frequent injections. Pellet delivery produces more stable circulating levels than many intermittent methods, but evidence and regulatory guidance emphasise that the most robust, consistent outcomes are for sexual desire in postmenopausal women; other benefits are supported by observational data and clinical experience rather than large, long-term randomized trials.3

New patients require an initial consultation before treatment.

What to Expect

1

New-patient consultation & labs

We start with a focused history, symptom inventory, and baseline blood tests to assess hormones and rule out other causes.

2

Personalized dosing

Dose is tailored by weight, symptoms, labs, and clinical goals.

3

Quick in-office procedure

Local anesthetic, a small incision in the upper buttock, insertion of rice-grain–sized pellets, and a steri-strip or small suture closure. The procedure typically takes 10–20 minutes.

4

Early pharmacokinetics

Expect a relative peak in testosterone in the first 2–3 weeks with gradual decline thereafter; most patients experience symptomatic benefit in 2–6 weeks, with therapeutic plans adjusted over subsequent months.

5

Follow-up & monitoring

We recheck labs and symptoms at pre-specified intervals and adjust dosing or timing of re-insertion to maintain symptom control and safety.

Pre & Post Care Instruction

Before your appointment

  • Complete requested labs and medical history forms.
  • Avoid starting high-dose supplements or new hormonal products within 1–2 weeks of testing without clinician guidance.
  • Notify us if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning pregnancy.

After your procedure

  • Keep the incision dry and covered as instructed; avoid soaking (baths, pools) until the site is fully healed (typically 48–72 hours).
  • Avoid heavy lifting or vigorous exercise that stresses the insertion site for 48–72 hours.
  • Expect minimal downtime; most patients resume normal activities the same day with common minor side effects such as localized tenderness or bruising.

I can’t recommend Dr Gafori highly enough! As a gynecologist specializing in woman’s hormones , she truly cares about her patients well being. From the moment I walked into PRFCT , I felt valued and comfortable. Dr Gafori goes above and beyond to ensure her patients feel heard and her attention to detail is remarkable.
She takes her time during each appointment , making sure that all of my concerns are addressed. Without ever making me feel rushed. I appreciate how dedicated she is to staying updated on the latest studies - attending conferences etc, it shows she genuinely invests time in her practice and her patients.
The office , located in the heart of La Jolla ,is just as wonderful! It is woman owned , which makes it feel even more special. Although ,I’ve seen a handful of men in there as well getting other treatments that PRFCT offers. The boutique style inside of PRFCT is cute and quaint , filled with a variety of different products and little gift items. It has a very inviting feel to it with little bowls of candy scattered around. It really adds a warm touch. The whole staff, including Dr Zoe ,is incredibly kind and helpful. The entire experience from making my appointment , to to visiting the office was seamless and enjoyable. If you are looking for a hormone Dr that truly cares , look no further!

Frequently Asked Questions

When prescribed and monitored by experienced clinicians, pellet therapy can be safe for selected women. That said, long-term safety data remain limited and some medical societies advise cautious, evidence-based use—especially outside the clearly supported indication of hypoactive sexual desire in postmenopausal women. Careful monitoring mitigates risk.
