Most physical exfoliation fails in one of two directions. Grainy scrubs have irregular edges that can create micro-tears in the skin surface, and bristle brushes are difficult to dry properly between uses.

Konjac is the root of a plant grown across East Asia. Dried into a sponge it is rigid, but soaked in warm water it swells into a soft fiber network that sweeps the surface rather than abrading it — gentle enough for daily use, including on skin that cannot tolerate an acid or a scrub.

The mistake with oily skin is treating it as something to be scrubbed away. Strip the barrier and skin compensates by producing more oil, which is how a harsh routine quietly becomes the problem it was meant to solve.

Daily and gentle works better than periodic and aggressive. This sponge is finished with mint powder and made for oily to combination skin.

Konjac sponges are plant fiber, not foam. There is no plastic and no microbead content, and at the end of its short life the sponge is biodegradable — it can go into your compost rather than your trash.

Dr. Zoe's Notes on How to Use

Soak it in warm water for a minute, until it is completely soft and springy. Never use it dry — that is how people end up irritated. Squeeze out the excess, then work in light circular motions over damp skin, with your cleanser or with water alone.

Afterward, rinse it thoroughly and press the water out between your palms. Do not wring or twist it — that tears the fiber. Hang it somewhere it can dry fully between uses.

Replace it every four to six weeks. They are inexpensive for exactly that reason. If it starts to feel slick or hold an odor, it is past due.
